Participants can register for the workshops below via the sign-up sheets in Doyle Hall. Workshop sign-ups are first-come, first serve so arriving early gives you the best chance at your first choice of workshop.

Creating Art with Birdbrain Finch Robots |

In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the exciting world of coding while getting creative with robotics! You'll learn foundational coding concepts by drawing regular shapes using Scratch, blocks, Python, or JavaScript.

Using a Birdbrain Finch robot, you’ll design and create a unique piece of artwork—either contributing to a collaborative mural or making your own drawing to take home. Whether you're new to coding or looking to expand your skills, this workshop is a fun and interactive way to combine technology with creativity!

Winning "Wheel of Fortune" Using Natural Language Processing | Kira Tebbe

Come learn how Natural Language Processing (NLP) can be used to win a game show! We will learn how computers recognize patterns in text by using tokens, regular expressions, counts, and uncovering hidden structures in language. We'll use paper strips to dissect phrases and words and tally up the patterns hiding within. The presenter will lead participants through these techniques, which she used in real-life to prepare to be a Wheel of Fortune contestant – and win $57,655! Participants will leave the workshop with familiarity with some NLP techniques and a creative eye for how to use them.

Join us as we explore three key competencies that computer scientists use, how they show up in our lives, and ways to sharpen them. You’ll see how these skills can change how you approach not just tech, but everything you do!

In this hands-on workshop, students will practice simulated driving maneuvers while learning essential road safety skills. Through a realistic police traffic stop role play, they'll explore how to handle interactions with law enforcement.

CANCELED HACK THE FLAG: A Hands-On Cybersecurity Adventure with PicoCTF! | Tennisha Martin, Black Girls Hack & Taylor Howard Fortune, Code in the Schools

This workshop introduces students to Capture The Flag competitions through PicoCTF, an interactive platform designed to teach cybersecurity concepts in a fun and engaging way. Participants will solve real-world cybersecurity challenges that build foundational skills in ethical hacking, cryptography, and digital forensics.
